Make This Keto Pancake Syrup For Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast or brunch – even when you are on the keto diet! Not only is this syrup good for pancakes, you can even use it to make a keto ham glaze.

With this homemade low-carb maple syrup recipe, you never have to be without your favorite topping ever again. It tastes so yummy that kids and other family members will want some too.

What Is Maple Syrup

Maple syrup has been a staple part of American delicacies since indigenous populations first obtained sap from maple trees in the 1600s.

Consumer reports show that the natural sweetener contains several nutrients, meaning that one-quarter cup of maple syrup can deliver six percent of your recommended daily dosage of calcium and eleven percent of the recommended amount of zinc. It can also offer one a hefty dose of magnesium and potassium.

Nonetheless, it is still not a keto-sweetener.

Even though traditional maple syrup holds some nutritional value over refined sugar because of its mineral and antioxidant qualities, its elevated levels of carbs and calories make it unsuitable as a ketogenic-diet sweetener alternative. A single tablespoon of maple syrup contains up to 52 calories, meaning that it exceeds the daily sugar intake recommendations for someone on a Keto diet in just a spoonful!

Its also important to be mindful of serving sizes. According to a report by the United States Department of Agriculture , a standard serving of maple syrup is one-quarter cup. However, certain brands list their servings in terms of teaspoons or tablespoons in an effort to make their products seem like they are low in carbs. So, make sure you do not get fooled by these marketing tactics.

How To Fix Crystals In Keto Syrup

If your syrup gets crystallized, dont worry its super easy to fix the syrup. Just rewarm the sauce before using it, and the crystals will disappear. You dont even need to stir. The heat will melt the crystals.

This phenomenon often happens when using brown sugar substitute or any Erythritol-based product.

Best Sweetener For Keto Syrup

My personal favorite is Lakanto Golden Monkfruit, its a raw cane sugar replacement perfect for keto, diabetics, and those on Paleo. I found that it dissolved really well and didnt leave it tasting gritty or grainy at all.

I know others have used powdered sweetener like Swerve and have really liked that because of the way that it dissolves.

Is Maple Syrup Keto Friendly

Is it Keto Friendly -Sugarfree Maple Syrup

Answer: Maple syrup is completely incompatible with keto, as it’s almost pure sugar.

Maple syrup, a tasty breakfast classic, is sadly not compatible with the keto diet.

A single 1/4 cup serving of maple syrup contains an astounding 55 g of net carbs. It’s enough that a single serving is enough to kick people out of ketosis, even if they have no other carbs for the day.

Fortunately, there are keto-friendly syrup substitutes. Instead of sugar, these syrups use keto-friendly sweeteners such as monk fruit, erythritol, and stevia.

When evaluating keto-friendly syrups, be mindful of their serving size. The USDA’s standard serving size for maple syrup is 1/4 cup. Some brands list their serving size in terms of tablespoons or even teaspoons in an effort to make their product seem lower in carbs, so don’t be fooled.

One example of a deceptive syrup is All-u-Lose. They advertise 0.6 g of net carbs per serving, but a closer examination reveals their serving size to be only 1 tsp. Putting that in terms of the standard 1/4 cup serving size, their net carb count is actually 7.4 g per serving!

What Is Considered Keto

Maple flavor Syrup

It is no secret that the practice of low-carb dieting has been on the rise since the Atkins diet first made its way onto the scene in the 1970s. One of the most notable variations of the Atkins program is the Keto diet.

According to Medical News Today, the only way to reach and maintain a state of ketosis is when your body burns excess fat after depleting itself of carbohydrates. When this happens, the body produces ketones and diverts cells from using carbs as their primary energy source. Instead, the cells use ketones or fats stored in the body as fuel.

Research has proven that a ketogenic diet helps with weight loss and diabetes management. But did you know that it can also reduce the effects of medical conditions like epilepsy, cancer, and heart disease? These are just a few of the reasons why the keto diet has become so popular.

To adhere to the requirements of a keto diet, you must significantly increase your intake of fats and limit your carbs. The reduction of carbohydrate intake and the increased consumption of fats lead to ketosis. To sustain this state, youll also need to make sure you keep any sugar consumption to a bare minimum.

How Do You Make Homemade Maple Syrup

  • Pour your maple syrup into a heavy-bottomed pot with high walls.
  • Prepare a heatproof bowl and fill it about one-third full of ice and a little water.
  • Heat the pot over medium, checking the temperature frequently with a candy or instant-read thermometer, until the syrup reaches 235 degrees F.

What Sweetener Is Best To Use For Keto Syrup

Preferred sweeteners to make any Keto Syrups are Allulose, Monk Fruit Sweetener, or Xylitol.

Xylitol has a tiny bit of carbs, which you should consider when counting your macros.

It is also poisonous to the dogs, so be careful if you have some pets at home.

Erythritol is my least favorite as it tends to crystalize after cooling.

But if you do not have any other sweetener at home, Erythritol is also a great suggestion.

To avoid excessive crystalizing, I suggest using distilled water and graining your crystalized Erythritol beforehand.

And just in case it still does crystalize, no worries.
