STEP 1: Add the eggs, butter, sweetener, almond milk, vanilla extract and lemon extract to a large mixing bowl. Beat until all ingredients are well combined. To a separate bowl, add the almond flour, coconut flour, and baking powder. Whisk to combine. STEP 2: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until all ingredients are well incorporated. STEP 3: Divide the mixture between 6 wells of the prepared donut pan, filling each one ¾ of the way full. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until donuts are golden brown on the surface. Let cool completely before removing from the pan. STEP 4: Add the sweetener and lemon juice to a bowl and whisk to combine. Dip each donut into the glaze and then place on a wire rack to let the glaze set.

  • 4 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 4 tablespoons nut butter as frosting


  • Preheat your oven to 325F
  • Take a bowl and whisk the almond meal, protein powder, oat flour, baking soda and powder well together.
  • Once the dry ingredients are mixed, add the wet ingredients and stir profusely.
  • Once the batter gets somewhat thick, add a little bit of milk and make sure it doesnt help clumpy.
  • Keep adding the milk in small quantities till you get a thick and smooth batter.
  • Spray the donut pan with either cooking spray or coconut/olive/avocado oil to prevent the mixture from sticking
  • Spoon the mixture into a Ziploc bag and cut its corner off to get a sort of pipe
  • Now pipe the donuts into your pan and bake them for around 15 minutes till they turn golden brown
  • Allow them to cool and then add the frosting of your choice!

    We all like our donuts different ways right. I have to say a glazed donut, or iced sugar free donut has a certain appeal to me. So here are just a few ways that you can very simply make this basic low carb donut recipe your own.

    Make a simple icing with powdered sweetener, food colour, and water. Here I have sprinkles that do contain sugar and can still be a lower carb option for both you and the kids.

    Just omit the sprinkles for a plain iced donut or drizzle with some chocolate and nuts. I use Sukrin Melis for any icing, glaze or frostings.

    I went back and forth on the kind of topping or coating to use on my first low carb donuts recipe. Glazed? Powdered? Sugar coated? Maybe even chocolate?

    Ultimately, I settled on a sugar donut style. Those were always my favorite!

    Of course, these almond flour donuts arent actually coated with sugar. I used erythritol, since its my favorite natural sweetener.     If youre sensitive to the cooling sensation it tends to have, you can use allulose instead in the same amount, or monk fruit allulose blend using scant measurements.

    For those wanting paleo donuts, some people are okay with erythritol since its a natural sweetener. If you arent, you can make these with coconut sugar if thats more paleo-friendly for you. They just wont be low carb or sugar-free, but will be paleo. If you just need gluten-free but dont care about the sugar-free part, try gluten-free cinnamon sugar donuts.

    For these low carb donuts, just make sure to choose one that you like the taste of, if you put it on your tongue straight. Youll taste the coating first!

    If you prefer glazed keto donuts, those are pretty easy to make, too. Combine powdered sweetener and heavy cream until you get your desired consistency, and pour over the donuts. Yum!

    Working With Almond Flour

    A note about using almond flour Its NOT a 1-to-1 for other flours, like coconut flour, so it reacts differently in recipes.

    Its best stored in the refrigerator or freezer if youre not going to use it up in a week or two.

    ALWAYS SPOON your almond flour into your measuring cup, unless otherwise noted.

    Always bring Almond meal or flour to room temperature before baking with it.

    If you use it cold, itll absorb more of the liquid and your batter will be thicker than it should be.

    And remember, because its made from almonds, it can go rancid, so keep track of when you opened the bag.

    Easy Keto Cake Donuts

    These easy keto cake donuts taste similar to traditional cake donuts. Theyre fried in either avocado or coconut oil and have all the delicious flavor and tender moist crumb of bakery donuts.

    Since Im the only one in the house that follows a keto lifestyle, Ive actually created 3 versions of this recipe, a full dozen, a half dozen, and tiny batch . Id hate to have all these delicious donuts hanging around, calling my name.

    Overturn the dough onto a Silpat or silicone baking mat. This prevents the need for additional fats, oils, or ingredients. The dough is tacky, but not too sticky to form on the mat.

    Divide the dough into equal pieces. Flatten the dough, forming the donuts, shaping each of them with your hand.

    Then shape the donut dough and donut holes until smooth.

    Dont be too picky with them, they fluff up nicely when they fry.

    Sugar Substitutes To Use For These Keto Donuts

    For the powdered sugar coating, you’ll notice we are using Confectioners Swerve – and this is also what we’ll be using to add a touch of sweetness to our donut batter as well.

    However, another sugar substitute that will work just as well in these sugar-free donuts is Lakanto’s Confectioners Monk Fruit. Lakanto – just like Swerve – has the exact amount of sweetness as regular sugar and measures out with sugar on a one-for-one ratio.

    It was about time that I make my own keto low carb donuts with almond flour. Of all the low carb flours, super fine blanched almond flour is definitely my favorite in terms of both taste and texture. It makes great low carb pancakes blended with coconut flour, or almond flour pancakes on its own.

    How To Make Blueberry Keto Donuts

    Making these baked keto blueberry donuts is quick and easy! Start by preheating your oven and making sure your donut molds are dry and well greased. Then its as simple as combining the dry ingredients and wet ingredients.

    I like to use an electric mixer to make sure the batter is well mixed but you can absolutely do this by hand.

    To easily add the batter into the donut molds I recommend using apastry bag or making a makeshift one out of a large ziplockbag. Simply add the batter, twist the top closed and squeeze all of the batter to one corner of the bag, and cut off the corner.

    When making keto donuts I prefer to use silicone molds but a non-stick donut baking pan will also work well. Whichever you choose to use, you will need to grease the cavities well before adding the batter.

    If youre using a silicone mold, you should place your silicone mold on top of a baking sheet before filling them. This prevents any spillage when trying to move the molds when full because they are not rigid like metal molds.

    This will also make it easier when you remove them from the oven as well.

    After the donuts are done baking, you can make the glaze while they cool on a baking rack. Once fully cooled, you add the glaze to the donuts and allow the glaze to set while on the baking rack.

    The Best Frying Oil For Delicious Keto Donuts

    If you do choose to fry them, and we certainly do, youll want to use the best high quality cooking oil. We love avocado oil and coconut oil because they have higher smoke points. For keto recipes that heat oil youll want to use high quality ingredients so the oils dont oxidize and cause carcinogens to form.
