Can I Make Onion Rings In The Oven
You may be a person who doesnt care for fried foods and may be wondering if you can make your Keto Onion Rings in the oven. No worries, cooking onion rings in the oven still makes them come out great.
Just preheat the oven to 400 degrees and bake your onion rings for about 10 minutes.
If they dont get as crispy as you would like them to get, you could always stick them under the broiler for a minute or two. Just be careful not to burn them but broil them just enough to crisp them a bit more.

How To Cut Onion Rings
Once you cut one onion then you will get the hang of how to cut the others.
Before cutting the onions I peel them. I then cut off anything that may be a flaw in the onion and the two ends of it. Once you do that you are ready to slice your onions.
Cut the onions into as thin or thick slices as you would like to. I think that ¼ inch slices are good, but feel free to make them to your desired size. Each slice will yield a few rings, so separate them into rings.
Make sure to put aside the small rings since they are too small to use for onion rings and you can use them for something else.
In a bowl put your almond flour, coconut flour, spices, and parmesan cheese. Blend all together until well mixed.
Next, beat your eggs in a bowl.
Dip the onions in egg, then the flour mixture once. Make sure the onion rings are well coated in both as this will help give you a thick batter that doesnt fall off.
Then repeat this step and dip each onion ring in the egg and flour mixture again. The double coating will help the breading to stay connected to your onions.

How To Make Onion Rings Crispier
The first trick to making your onion rings crispy is once you coat them dont let them stay around too long before frying them or baking them. They will start to get soggy.
I have found though that if I coat them and refrigerate them for about a half-hour, they get really cold before placing them in the hot oil. This will help to make the onion rings crispier and hold the breading on the onion.
Your low carb onion rings will come out crispy if you heat up the oil to the right temperature and place them in the oil after it reaches the correct temperature. This is key!
Why Onions Are Good For The Keto Diet

One of the biggest challenges of the keto diet is getting enough fiber. The average person needs 25 grams of fiber per day. A lot of ketoers avoid vegetables because of their carb content. Keep in mind, though, the goal isnt to completely eliminate carbs. The goal is to manage to a net carb number.
If you dont get enough fiber, youll be plagued with bathroom problems, i.e., constipation. And that, my friends, is one of the most common problems with a keto diet that isnt well-balanced. So, the way to correct it is to make sure you get enough fiber in your keto-loving diet. Keto friendly vegetables are the easy and nutritious way to do it.

Why Arent Onions Ideal For A Keto Diet
The answer to the question, are onions keto, depends on a few things, primarily how much you intend to use. Onions are typically considered keto-friendly, but they arent suitable in large volumes. All types of onions contain carbohydrates. The starches and sugars in onions could potentially push you over your daily net carb limit and bring you out of ketosis.
Most keto dieters aim to eat under 50 grams of carbs, which would be very challenging to reach with just onions. Other people on a keto diet restrict themselves to 25g or fewer, sometimes aiming for as close to 0g of carbs as possible.
While onions likely wouldnt threaten your ketogenic state if you eat fewer than 50g of carbs, half an onion in a dish might add enough carbs to put you over your limit if you aim to eat under 5g or even 10g of carbs per day.
My Onion Rings Are Too Crispy
In order not to burn your onion rings the first thing you need to do is to make sure that your hot oil does not exceed 285 degrees F.
Do not leave your onion rings in the oil too long. When they start to get golden brown gently pull them out of the oil.
The same is true if you are going to bake them in the oven. When they are golden brown take them out of the oven before they get too dark.
I think the best thing to do is to test the oil by putting one onion ring in it as a test. You will know if the oil is ready because if it doesnt start cooking right away its not heated up enough.
If it starts cooking too fast then turn down the oil for a minute before putting the rest of your rings in.

On the surface, no, onions are not a keto-friendly food item. They have no natural fat content, like all vegetables, and are mostly carbohydrates.
For reference, an average large onion contains 0g of fat, 14g of carbohydrates, and 2g of protein. Again, not a keto-friendly food due to the high carb content.
However, its how the onion is used that makes it keto or not. Caramelized by itself, its not keto. However in a dish like this that adds plenty of added fats, it is acceptable.
And, using only half an onion across several servings lowers the carb count per serving even lower.
